Leslie Engelhard
Leslie Engelhard and her husband Dan (who is also a member of KTAC) grew up in the Tri-Cities area. However, they did not meet until both were living in the Seattle area and as they say, “The rest is history.” Dan was later hired as the manager of the Kitsap Mall, and they moved to the Kitsap area and raised their three children. This year Leslie was fortunate enough to visit her daughter in South Korea and see her first grandchild, a girl named Rae after Dan’s middle name.
Leslie has worked as a medical lab tech for 43 years doing analysis, quality control, etc. She enjoys the minute details of the job and knowing she’s helping patients behind the scenes obtain a proper diagnosis in order to start treatment.
In her free time, besides being at KTAC, she enjoys gardening and musical theater. If he’s lucky enough, sometimes even Dan is cast alongside her. Her favorite role was playing Anna in the King and I. Occasionally, Leslie can be found visiting the casino playing table games and slots hoping for her first jackpot.
Leslie joined KTAC so long ago she can’t fathom when, but approximately 20 years ago. She was asked six years ago to serve on the board of directors and has now finished her last term. As the secretary, she has enjoyed being the historian of the board and contributing to and updating the by-laws.
About four years ago, Leslie decided to expand her repertoire and try yoga. Even though tennis is her first love, yoga seems to be catching up. Helping to start her weekend off right she goes to the 9am class on Saturdays. She has found many benefits such as weight loss, better balance, strength, and focus. Finding that as she has gracefully aged, yoga has given her more movement in her tennis form.
The first three things that come to her mind when thinking of KTAC are fun, friends, and staying in shape. The recent rummage sale really felt, to her, the summary of the KTAC family with many people coming together, working as a team, for a common purpose. Her favorite KTAC memory is years ago at KTAC’s famous “Turkey Shootout” playing Karen Fossum in a singles game for three and half hours. Both women fought valiantly for the prized bird but in the end, Leslie was able to take home her winnings and eat it in relished victory!
Leslie’s future KTAC goals include utilizing more of the facilities such as swimming and weight training classes with Alex. If you see Leslie around KTAC, be sure and give a her a big friendly HELLO!
