Our History

In 1970 a group of individuals with a love for fitness, especially tennis, created the Bremerton Tennis and Athletic Club.  The organization began as a member-owned, 501(c)(7) Non-Profit Social Club dedicated to the service of its members and operated by a member elected Board of Directors.

Built on 12-wooded acres beyond the city limits of the city of Bremerton, the 60,000 sq. ft. facility included 4 indoor and 4 outdoor tennis courts, Olympic sized swimming pool and fitness facilities.

In 2014, Bremerton Tennis and Athletic Club was granted status as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization and changed its name to Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center.  This transformation provided the center with the opportunity to reach out into the Kitsap Community and share its values with a wider community.

KTAC NOW

Today, Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center is the fitness home of more than 400 Kitsap families.  KTAC thrives under the leadership of General Manager Katrina Fulkerson.  Our Board of Directors is led by board President John Wheeler.

Tennis remains central to the organization and a dynamic community of individuals have built a warm and inviting culture surrounding the game and is clearly engaging social opportunities.  The facility includes 4 indoor and 4 outdoor tennis courts for year-round play.  KTAC hosts USTA sanctioned tennis tournaments and league play for adults and is a USTA Net Generation provider for Junior Tennis.  Ample opportunities are available tennis instruction for all ages, competitive and recreational play as well as socializing with others who love the game.

KTAC ‘s Aquatics Center is home to Kitsap County’s only Olympic sized, heated, indoor, saltwater pool. The Aquatics Center also includes a salt-water hot tub and sauna facilities.  The Center offers progressive swim lessons with new sessions beginning monthly.  Public Swim sessions are scheduled daily.

Additionally, KTAC offers the community one of the widest ranges of fitness and wellness opportunities in the county and beyond.  The Center hosts over 45 land and aquatics fitness classes every week, and private and group instruction fitness is available.

KTAC’s youth programming provides opportunities across the gamut of our facility resources for kids throughout our community to participate in fun and fitness focused events.  KTAC’s Junior Tennis program is heralded as the top Junior Tennis Program in Kitsap County.

Community Outreach

At Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center our community outreach is strongly focused on developing opportunities for our community to engage in fitness and wellness activities that are tangibly beneficial to quality of life for individuals and families.  Youth outreach is especially important here at KTAC as we understand that if we are able to help kids adopt Fitness, Wellness, Sportsmanship, Community and Fun as core values early in life, these values will help them to be healthy, happy and successful wherever their futures may take them.  Accordingly, we craft programming such as our Kitsap Kid’s Learn 2 Swim that reaches out into our community and brings county first graders into our facility to participate in water safety and swim lessons at no cost.  The curriculum teaches lifesaving water skills, the kids have fun and learn about an community that cares.

KTAC strives to be an active participant in our community.  Our facility hosts multiple community partners to help increased both quantity and quality of services available here in our Kitsap Community.  We are members of the Greater Kitsap Chamber of Commerce and our General Manager serves on boards and committees for several area non-profits and our center regularly contributes time and resources to local PTA’s, other community groups and community events.
