Erik Jacobsen – Head Tennis Professional

Erik

Erik has been the Head Tennis Professional at the club for 17years
Prior to coming to KTAC, Erik taught at the Bally’s in Puyallup and Sprinker Tennis Center. Erik played on the Cal State Hayward tennis team for 4 years, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. He also played on the PNW Open Circuit for 8 years.

“The kids respond to Erik,” says one staff member. “It’s his engaging personality — a very easy demeanor, very approachable and knowledgeable. Erik is a very likable guy who knows when to push the kids a little bit. But he’s not one of those coaches who is overbearing, intimidating, and yells. Erik is great at fostering a competitive, but safe and fun environment for the kids.

“He finds the point of impact for each individual. He doesn’t just coach one way. Every person is different and responses differently, and he finds that point and uses that to get the most out of them.”

As part of the Kitsap Tennis & Athletic Center, Erik has coached National qualifying USTA Adult and Junior teams, multiple nationally ranked juniors, and over 40 junior players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Jacobsen went to high school at Evergreen in Seattle where he earned a tennis scholarship, playing two years at West Valley College (Saratoga, Calif., 50 miles south of San Francisco) and then accepting a scholarship to Cal-State Hayward where he played No. 2 singles at the NCAA Division II school.

Will Herbert – Tennis Professional & Tennis Director

Will Herbert

William Herbert began his teaching career in one of our Centers very own tennis Summer Camps more than 10 years ago. He has also taught at Matrix Tennis Academy and Paseo Racquet Center in Arizona. With an extensive background in teaching all levels and ages, he has a specific passion to develop junior tennis players by training them to be champions on and off the court, and to instruct adult players on improving their game and develop strong doubles strategies.

William grew up playing tennis at KTAC under the tutelage of Erik Jacobsen starting at age 12 up until early adulthood. After graduating high school, William played college tennis for 1 year at Green River Community College then was recruited to play at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ where he helped his team achieve a high ranking of 8th in the nation for Division 2. He continued to play Future and Open tournaments around the United States and Pacific Northwest. William continues to play for USTA teams out of the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center.
