A licensed Massage Practitioner in Washington State (# MA1485) since 1983 and at KTAC since 2002. Previously nationally certified in massage and bodywork, he is a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association.
Mike worked as an engineer for the Navy from 1968 to 1998 and got interested in massage because of his wife Susan’s scoliosis. To make sure he was “rubbing her the right way”, he went to Breneke’s School of Massage in Seattle for a grand total of 63 hours and passed the state Licensing tests in 1983. Since that time he has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education in subjects such as sport’s massage, stretching techniques, spa modalities, massage for specific injuries, and, most recently, orthopedic massage. Additionally, he completed the 550 hour massage class at the Port Townsend School of Massage after retirement to improve his knowledge and skills.
Mike and his family joined KTAC (formerly BTAC) in 1973, and since 1983,when he got his license in massage he would use his skills to satisfy his annual volunteer hours at tennis tournaments. Needless to say, the participants appreciated his work. While doing chair massage at an open house at KTAC in 2001, he was asked to replace our recently departed massage therapist, and he has been here since January 2002. Through the end of 2010 he has provided over 1700 massages to members, non-members, staff and gift certificate recipients because he enjoys it and because he considers it a service to the members. A one-hour appointment is the most common; however, you may request a longer session. One hour is enough time for a deeply relaxing full body massage or a more in-depth treatment of a particular area (such as the neck, back or shoulders).
Here are a few guidelines to help you feel at ease, and to gain the greatest benefit from your massage session:
Undress to your comfort level. The practitioner is sensitive to your need for privacy and will keep you covered with a sheet, undraping only the area being massaged. Close your eyes and allow yourself to relax as completely as possible. Falling asleep during a massage is not uncommon. The practitioner will gently wake you when it is time to change positions.
